Summer Story ’15

I love Summer.

It’s my favorite season.

But it was hard to not let my eyes water as my youngest hopped out of the car for the last time as a third grader this morning.

She keeps growing up …

My heart sighed when my middle daughter asked for thank-you notes for her teachers.

She’s become so thoughtful but this year has passed so quickly …

And my oldest daughter took exams for the first time this week.

Three more summers before college …

Yes, my momma heart is all nostalgic this morning. Time keeps marching on and today is one of those days I realize just how quickly it’s moving.

But I think there’s something deeper wanting to surface.

Stories.

Life is made of them. I miss them all the time. And if I don’t capture them, life’s to-do’s seem to make them disappear.

I know the summer can bring all kinds of crazy to our lives. Trying to slow down and soak it all in can feel impossible.

But as I count down the hours before my three daughters officially begin their summer break, I want something different this summer.

Savor.
Remember.
Find.
Capture.

Maybe you do too?

And so I want to offer up this little corner of the internet to be a place to share our summmer stories.

The moments that remind us how quickly life is passing us by.
The days that linger.
The long-dramatic-car rides we’ll laugh at … one day.
The conversations that happen because life offers a few extra moments of connection with the people we love.

Your summer of 2015 is beginning it’s story. So, let’s capture it, let’s remember it, let’s … share it.

SummerStory15

Here’s how we’ll do this:

-Bloggers, every Thursday I’ll have a link-up here on the blog for you to post a link to your blog to share your #SummerStory15. It can be something funny, something inspiring, or something just very real.

We’ll start this next Thursday, June 17th so you’ve got time to get your post ready. 🙂

-Non-Bloggers, we’ll use the hashtag: #SummerStory15 on social media to capture and remember the story of your summer. I’ll be checking the hashtag regularly to follow along with YOUR summer story. 🙂 And I’ll ask a few of you if I can share your picture here on the blog on Thursday’s.

Sound fun?
You in?

Let me know your thoughts on this journey in the comment section today here on the blog. And if you have any questions I’m happy to answer those as well in the comment section.

    • Yay!! Thanks for joining in Johanna. I can’t wait to see your story! 🙂

  • I am in. My twins just graduated and soon will leave for college so I am wanting to savor every moment i can.

  • I would love to do this. Although I do not have children I want to capture everything I possibly can this summer as it may be my mothers last. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and she is currently too weak for chemo. We are trying to get her stronger to see if it is a possibility but if not we may only have 6 months with her. Something like this makes you realize how every single moment counts.

    • My heart aches for you and your momma … I’m so sorry you are walking through this right now. Yes, every moment truly counts. xoxo

  • Sounds like fun. #SummerStory15 and our family motto is “It’s always a story with the Henderson’s.” 🙂

  • I love this idea. My children are grown (well one still lives at home while attending Junior college). I have learned that it is so important to savor these moments. I look forward to reading and sharing in this summer journey.

  • I can so relate only it’s my youngest granddaughter that just finished third grade and two others just finished second! I have two middle schoolers – one granddaughter and a grandson and my oldest granddaughter will graduate next year. God has blessed me so much . Love you Nicki and looking forward to making special memories to savor this summer!

  • Oooh I LOVE THS idea !! I am doo in !! Thanks for a great idea, and the sharing of friendship and family through summer stories!! Can’t wait Nicki !! ❤

  • I’m in!! Woo-hoo! Thanks Nicki for opening up this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to it.

  • Count me in, it sounds like fun! The older I get, the more I realize how quickly the years fly by! Savoring special moments is one way to ‘stop time’ so to speak!

  • Hey Nicki,

I’m so in. My son finished his first year of high school. I do not know where the time went. Like you, my child will be gone in a few short years. I was no lucky enough to stay home with my son when he was small, but God has given me the opportunity now – its because of medical issues, but I think of it as an opportunity not an obstacle. Savor. That is going to be my word of the summer. I think I will write this and hang it all over the house. I’m looking forward to writing with you on my blog starting next Thursday.

    Thanks!!!!! Love you!!

  • I’m so excited to be part of this precious group of ladies who love JESUS like I do! My children are grown, some of my grandchildren are, and I have two little great-grands who have completely wrapped their sweet little selves around my heart! I’m legally blind and can no longer drive, so I have a lot of time to “savor” the wonderful moments Father gives me! Looking so forward to hearing all about yours!

  • Hi Nicki and friends of faith,

I was in your Bible study earlier this year and loved every day of it! I have to tell you that I am Catholic but all of you at Proverbs 31 Ministries have added so much to my journey of faith!

My “Summer Story” is that Jesus has removed me from a life of emotional pain and suffering and moved me into a new and happy life where I’m able to be myself and share the love I have for Jesus freely!

Blessings to you and your precious family,

    Debbie

  • Neat idea! I’m not much of a writer but I love taking photos.

  • I am not a writer but I love reading your stories Nicki
