After you watch the video, here’s a question for you: What kinds of things can we do to make sure our soil is a place where good seed can settle in? Leave a comment and share, I’m excited to hear your input on this.

Ooh. This message is SO GOOD today. It makes me want to stop and ask myself what my negative thoughts are doing to my soil, each time they come rolling in. What a great way of looking at and taking ownership of our outlook on life. THANK YOU!!!

  • This hits right on for me. I want my heart to have good soul for those seeds to take root!! You said it…sometimes a word, a fear, a doubt, an angry moment, can make you feel like Jesus just went right out of you….most of the time it’s right with the people you love most…family. Everyone knows just the right nerve to hit!! I know I can bring these thoughts back in line with God’s Word…He never fails to show up when I take time to read, ‘be there’ in the moment. He is faithful, I just need to bring my thoughts to Him and ask for forgiveness, ….He is ALWAYS there!

  • I love how God speaks truth through you! 🙂
My hope is to keep the soil of my heart prepared to receive and grow truth by immersing myself in His Word and committing to take time to LISTEN and not just speak.
I also want to stop letting the weeds (negative comments, discouraging thoughts, etc..) take over so I can leave room for the good, God stuff.

    • Yes! Have room for the God stuff. I agree I hear from God when I am reading or listening to Nicki in a way I don’t always hear from Him! Nicki dear you are such a blessing and a precious gift.

  • Nicki! It has been a long time!!! So glad I found you this morning (although it came through on Wednesday for me – and I live in Georgia – LOL!!!) This 2 minutes was so good to hear this morning. Things have been so out of whack for me for way too long, yet, I find myself amongst those who are “rich in the good soil” and digging in can’t be helped. I want that “richness” of good soil in me so that I can sow the seeds of goodness in those around me! And, YES, I am reminded of those times of “didn’t I just walk right out of our church doors?” But if I stop and think, that’s on me! I have to choose to be rich in the soil so that I can be the “goodness of rich soil” not just for others, but for myself as well. What am I showing those I love if I can’t show them how to plant the goodness that can produce 30, 60, and even 100 times as much as was planted. Thank you for bringing the good, rich soil to me this morning!

  • Hi Nicki,
Thanks so much for this message. I have read those verses and heard so many sermons on this, but the soil wasn’t what was focused on, but the seeds and the outcome of them. This really struck home as I’m currently studying the Beatitudes and really wanting Jesus to work in my heart to change me to be more like him as I learn what these Beatitudes mean. This is a really a good reminder that not only hearing, but preparing the soil to hear/preparing my heart to hear and receive the message is so important. Great question…what do I need to do to make the soil of my heart good soil. I will be working on this with the Lord, as it is only he who can change me and help me to get to that good soil.

    Blessings on your day,
    Kim 🙂

  • Hi Nicki,
Thank you for this word it is such a reminder to us to stop and listen and make sure that we are not just listening to the word ,but also receiving the word in our hearts and living it out.
    thank you

  • Thank you Nicki, I don’t have Periscope so I don’t get to hear your 2 minute Tuesdays anymore, thank you for this, you are so full of the Word and wisdom, I love hearing you teach!! God bless You!! ♥ This was a beautiful message and very convicting!!! LOVED IT!! NEEDED IT!!!!

  • I think good soil in my life can be obtained by first starting by praying to God each day, before my eyes open and before my feet hit the floor. With God as my base, I am equipped to show His love to others. 🙂

  • Hi Nicki! I LOVE your heart for God’s Word! The thing that comes to mind for me is to always be open and not assume. For example, there have been so many times that I almost threw a blessing back at God (not realizing it was a blessing). And almost missed some of the most wonderful blessings in my life. I pray that I don’t miss anything God has for me. Also, as a wife, to be submissive to my husband and not run ahead of him and be open to how the Lord is using my husband to keep me in line with His perfect will for my life. Basically I need help not being controlling in certain areas. And I need to be open to any way the Lord is trying to sanctify me, making me more set apart for His Kingdom and glory. 🙂

  • If it was just one thing I could do…….pray for a humble attitude to accept the teaching I am hearing. I humble posture is what I desire. What comes to my mind, right at this moment, is the title of a hymn we had in a BSF children’s program……I Want to be Like Jesus. I do so want to be like Him.

  • Oh my! What does it take to keep my “crop” flourishing? Well, let’s talk gardening uh? We dig a hole…according to directions on how deep-how wide to dig this hole. We use garden/potting soil with fertilizer to replace good nutrients for our seed to thrive. We then plant the seed or the plant in the hole. We add more soil to cover and water the seed or plant so it can grow. (Sometimes we may use a different fertilizer say Miracle-Gro anyone?) And then we need to maintain that seed/plant-making sure the weeds are constantly pulled; watering the plant; fertilizing when necessary. Well, when we open our hearts to the Word of God a seed is planted. It takes root. It starts growing. But maintaining is the hardest part. We need to make sure that we are constantly “weeding out” those thorns, weeds, leaves, etc in order for our seed to keep on growing. If we let the weeds take over what will happen to our seed/plant? Reading the Word, Studying the Word, Fellowshipping with God, Praying, Establishing Community with Fellow believers, Hearing the Word are all part of maintaining our seed. You need good soil, water, and light to grow seeds/plants. You need good Soil (hearts), Water (Word), and Light (Jesus) to grow our spiritual seeds. Why not use a little Miracle-Gro? Fertilizing with the Word by studying -digging deeper; and allowing God to penetrate our hearts and souls is great Miracle-Gro. <3
