The Transition of Seasons

The Transition of Seasons

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.

Let’s just say, there’s a lot of refining going on in my life.

I’ve always said I love Mondays because they are like a fresh new start to a week. I know that “technically” Sunday is the new start to a new week but for some reason it just always feels like Monday’s are the beginning! So, I’m really glad it’s Monday!

But there’s something I don’t like about this time of year right now.

It’s the transition.

You know how it goes…….one day it’s beautiful, the next day it’s scorching hot again. The mornings are cool and the days are still blazing. Bits and pieces of leaves are starting to change colors, but not all. The bees and mosquito’s are still a buzzing away. And yet something inside of me wants to light a fire and curl up in a blanket!

It’s not really “summer” anymore and yet it’s not really “fall” yet either!

This would be exactly how I feel in my life today! One foot in one season and one foot starting the next and I’m constantly being torn between the two!

What feels “normal” is no longer and what feels “strange” well……it feels strange.

Ex: It’s like Transitioning from flip-flops to regular shoes WITH SOCKS. It feels “Weird”.

When God starts to take us from one season to the next……..it can be painful. It feels un-comfortable and sometimes it just feels like it’s “not right”.

I have also found on a regular basis in transitions of the seasons that often a cold or allergies appear….only to make things even more fun! How alike is that thought in how we can feel spiritually sick in the transition of a season, we can feel tired, groggy and just want to curl up in our beds and not come out!

As I’ve fought these battles of transition in my life, God has clearly shown me there has to be a constant in it all…….Him.

Although our lives are constantly changing, moving different directions and transitioning into new seasons, He never changes.

He is the same. Yesterday. Today. And tomorrow.

He is the one who heals the brokenhearted. Psalm 147:3

He is the one who will hold our hand as we walk these roads. Psalm 73:23-24

He is the one who asks us to be set apart, different and not running in the same direction as everyone else. 2 Corinthians 6:17

He is the one who will not destroy us but build us up. Isaiah 55:11

He is the one who asks us to rest in Him. Mark 6:31

The beauty of the transition is that once we actually get into the “groove” of a new season it’s almost always prettier than the one before. There will be new experiences, new relationships, new sights, smells and sounds just like there is in any new season!

Embracing the transition with a constant. Him.

That change thing is tough on all of us. But the monotony of sameness can really get to me. The comfort or the challenge, you’re so right that I must look to God for help and hope.

Good post. How’s the little one doing? I’ve been praying.

  • Great analogy and lesson, Nicki!! It’s downright COLD here already most mornings (like, in the neighbourhood of 3C/37F!) and we’re definitely “transitioning” but it IS good to know that whether it’s seasons of the year or seasons in life, God is there, just like He always was, just like He always will be.

  • This was so right on tract!
Right where I am. Transition…not always an easy step.
But…if I keep wearing what was suitable for summer….I will be miserable in the winter.
Transition….the struggle to leave behind what was and grasp what is to be.

  • I can so relate. I feel like I am living in between “a good time remembered and another good time hoped for.” Ps. 126:3-4

So thankful that throughout this time of refinement God is there. He is faithful and will never leave our sides. Praise His Name!

  • Unlike the seasons on a calendar, the seasons in our life drift about and last for indefinite periods of time. God is calling me to a ‘new season’, but so thankful that whatever the conditions, I am in “His Season”.

  • Oh me….that’s a tear jerker! Been a rough couple of weeks around here too.
I love fall….I wish it would stay cool!

  • What a great way to look at it and right on target. I also agree with the first comment too. I think I’m so stuck in doing doughnuts in a parking lot. It’s just as you said though which ever place we are in…we have a constant through it all…Him. I don’t see how people make it through anything without Him.

  • Hey girl. Been missin’ you. You’re so right – change is hard – especially letting go of “flip flops”! (comfort) UGH!

    God is the only constant!
    Thanks for the reminder.

  • The transition time can be tough -I can’t put away everyones summer clothes yet and I need the room of the fall/winter ones! 🙂

On Labor day our family was out for a bike ride/walk (boys on bike, youngest in stroller, husband, our dog and I walking). I was sad summer was coming to a close he reminded me it will come back-but I said my children won’t be 8, 6 and 3 next summer. The passing time seems so precious as I watch them grow up and spread their wings. Makes me treasure each moment more.

I keep reminding myself how much I love fall and your picture captures the beauty of a great season!

Thank you for your insprational post to help us get through the transition and on to the joy!

  • I love this post–especially the last line–HE is the constant, the one that makes us all able to transition.

    Blessings

ps been praying for you and your daughter
