Last Christmas, Taylor, my oldest wrote Santa a letter that looked like this:
Yes, you read that right. She wanted a nine year old girl from Kenya.
But, as you can imagine Santa had a hard time pulling that one off. [wink] So instead Taylor’s Mimi decided that her gift to Taylor would be sponsoring a little girl from Kenya. And on Christmas morning Taylor’s eyes glowed as her and her Mimi sat on the computer and decided which girl that she would sponsor though Compassion International.
Taylor found a little girl named Christine. And ever since that day, Christine has filled Taylor’s heart with so much love and mercy for her. They write letters, we send pictures, we pray for her and…we dream about Christine.
More times than I can count out of no where Taylor has said, “I wonder what Christine is doing right now.”
The weeks between letters seem forever for Taylor and the excitement is un-real when we hear back from Christine.
Christine became apart of our family long before I ever had the opportunity to travel to El Salvador and see first-hand what Compassion does for a child. But now that I have seen, I just can’t stop telling people. $38 a month doesn’t just make a child feel warm and fuzzy. No, $38 a month changes lives…forever.
Compassion is committed to ending poverty. And when I say committed, I mean COMMITTED. They are IN the community, living out the gospel and bringing hope to the hopeless.
Taylor recently told me that she doesn’t think any gift will ever top being able to sponsor Christine. I really couldn’t agree more. The gift of sponsorship goes so much beyond a few days of excitement with a new toy. Sponsorship won’t be sent to good-will next year. Sponsorship is a gift that truly keeps on giving…even into eternity.
I’m not sure that any Wii game, Mattel Barbie or pair of Abercrombie jeans could ever come close to that.
So as you are hustling and bustling through last minute purchases, would you consider giving your child or someone that you care about a gift that is so much more?
You could be so creative in the way you present your gift:
-Wrap up a printed letter explaining sponsorship put it in a BIG box and build up the excitement.
-Buy some inexpensive stationary and wrap it up with an explanation letter about Compassion.
-Have your child pick out their sponsored child on Christmas morning after you present them with their gift.
Everything you need to know is on the Compassion website. I can promise you this, you’ll never regret the investment you will make not only into your child [or someone you love] but the investment you are making into a child clear across the world.
The child you will sponsor will think so much of you. He or She will wait endlessly for your letters, pictures and your prayers will comfort them during hard times. They will keep your letters forever, show them to everyone they know and they will dream of you too.
Sponsorship is so much more than just a gift…it’s a movement of God.
Click here to head to the Compassion site and if you decide to give this gift of sponsorship this year, I would more than LOVE to hear about it.
Merry Christmas.

Nicki, we continue to sponsor Christine throughout this next year. I also believe in what God is doing through compassion!
I love that girl! She is one special little lady with a real heart for the Lord.
This is so sweet. When my little sister was five years old, she kept telling Mom that we needed to adopt “a two-year-old black boy.” Six years later we “adopted” a twenty-five year old Ugandan missionary to Mexico. He’s a little older than she wanted, but Lydia was stuck to him like glue when he came stateside to visit. There’s really nothing like the family God creates in your heart.
