“He has set the right time for everything. He has given us a desire to know the future, but never gives us the satisfaction of fully understanding what he does.” -Ecclesiastes 3:11[Good News Trans]
Question 1 –What does this verse say?
Of all the versions for this verse, I loved this one found in the Good News Translation. [You can get all the translations you ever dreamed of on www.youversion.com. Its a great free resource.]
God, has a right time for everything. But He never gives US the satisfaction of knowing exactly what He’s doing.Yet, we still want to know what God is up to…we are naturally nosy. [smile]
Question 2 –What does this verse mean?
This verse means that even though we are created with this natural desire to know God and what He’s up…there is a position God is in over our lives:
Higher than anything. Above all.
Trusting in Him means that you’ve got to keep fighting for faith in your life, even when you don’t know what God is up to.
Question 3 –What does this verse mean to me?
Yesterday I was telling you about the deepest corners of my soul…how I have not ever really let anyone go there. As I prayed through things, I realized that I am so afraid of what others think God is doing in my life.
Let me explain.
Over my life I have had people “speak truth” to me. Tell me what they sees as strengths and what they see as weakness.
While this has been a positive thing…I’ve almost become dependent on it. I get confused. One person says this…another says another thing.
So today, I’m confronting this problem. Head on with this verse.
As we move forward with experiencing God’s truth for the purpose of our lives, we’ve got to ask ourselves: What is the vision for my life?
I believe that God gives us glimpses of our purpose here and there. Some people have a clear vision…they know exactly the place they are moving towards. Others…not so much.
I tend to fall somewhere in-between.
But what I feel so strongly about this morning is that, even when we don’t see where God is taking us…we still have to hold onto the vision. And when others say they don’t see it…well, we shouldn’t listen.
My pastor once said that if people don’t give you one of those “ya right “looks for the size of your vision…then your vision isn’t big enough.
Let them laugh. Let them talk about you behind your back. Let them call you a self-promoter. Let them give you a twisted look.
Because what they say…it doesn’t matter.
Don’t listen.
Listen to God. See the vision He has given you. See yourself the way God sees you. Yes, these are the truths I’m speaking to my own life today.
Even though according to this verse I will most likely never be able to satisfy my soul with the understanding of who God is and what He is doing…it really doesn’t matter.
Maybe the area we need to confront in order for our breakthroughs to come is the area of needing to be in the know.
-Trusting is a lot harder than second guessing.
-Staying put is a lot harder than moving forward.
-Listening to your internal voice is harder than listening to the external voices.
