We’ve been snowed in a few days this week. While its been good to catch up on laundry, cleaning and spending some extra time together as a family, I was very ready to send my crew back out into the world this week. [smile]
But sometimes it takes some hunkering down to realize what you have.
Day 12
The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him. -John 1:10
Question 1 –What does this verse say?
Basically, we can see and know the works of God but fail to even notice Him.
Question 2 –What does this verse mean?
I think instead of answering this question, I want to ask another question…
“How can we fail to not recognize God so much?”
Question 3 –What does this verse mean to me?
In the thirty years of my life I have crossed paths with many people who did not believe that Jesus was sent here as the Savior of this world. Its very difficult to talk to someone who deny’s the God you so strongly believe in –but I always look at the opportunity to talk to someone who believes differently as a way for me to grow.
I’ll never forget a time in our lives when Kris and I were in the worst possible financial position you could imagine. We were faithful to the Lord with our money but circumstance after circumstance led us down a very scary road.
But in the midst of that season, we saw God provide in ways that blew our minds. Food baskets were anonymously left at our door, money was left in a diaper bag one time, and someone even gave us…yes, gave us a car.
Even though during that season our faith was tested beyond anything we could ever have imagined, we knew that God was with us.
One day, a friend had invited me over to her beautiful new 4,000 sq ft house, right smack on the golf-course. Her furnishings were beautiful. Her clothes always looked so put together. And her house was every woman’s dream.
We were letting our girls play and I was telling her in a very humble way some of the ways that God had recently provided for us.
She looked at me a little crossed eyed and said, “How do you know that’s God? I mean, people just do good things. I think that is your Karma coming back to you.”
At first, I was shocked.
But then, I was sad.
Here she was with this seemingly amazing life and here I was in the pit of all pits and she just couldn’t see how I saw her life as so blessed.
I tried my best to explain but it was one of those conversations that just went no-where.
Here’s the thing. I don’t think what my friend said that day is to off from how the world views “good things”.
We don’t recognize it. But here is what I’m asking myself today:
Why wouldn’t God make the sun shine just for you today?
Why wouldn’t God send a rainbow over your house today?
Why wouldn’t God tell someone to give you a car?
Why wouldn’t God allow an unexpected check to show up?
Why wouldn’t God bring you that perfect job?
Why wouldn’t…
According to this verse it is very easy to NOT recognize God. So I am challenged today by this thought….
If the God of heaven and earth would send His son, in the flesh, to rescue my life why wouldn’t He allow me to see His blessings all around?
This verse has me thinking about another verse I want to leave you with today.
Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. -James 1;16
Hunker down. See what is all around you. See the movement of my works in your life…these are the things the Father whispers into my soul today.
