One of my goals of 2011 is to try new things.
Someone from our church had invited me to a writer’s group. This was a new thing [for sure] and I needed to go. But the inward battle I had all day long was: Should I go or should I not go.
I teetered on the edge up until the last thirty minutes before it was time to leave.
Finally, I just got into my car and went.
I braved walking into that room with experienced writers and people way beyond my years in wisdom. I expected to feel inadequate or mis-understood.
But, I didn’t.
They carefully listened to my struggles and had lots of great advice and wisdom. That hour flew by. I didn’t want it to end. Left me on the edge for desiring more growth from this group.
They spoke some much needed truth into my life and today I want to pass some of it on to you.
Which leads me to today’s verse:
“Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.” -Psalm 51:6
Question 1 -What does this verse say?
Yesterday, I looked closely at who exactly God is. How we do know him and that we can understand him. This verse is like a cherry on top of that big chunk of truth.
It says “you desire”. Realizing that God has desires…is a radical thought.
God. The creator of heaven and earth. The guy who knows it all. Sees it all. Looks at everything…has desires for…us.
And what he desires is truth in our lives. In those corners of our soul…where no one else goes. I mentioned those places in a few previous posts.
Wisdom and Truth in those inner corners is what God desires for us. Because when we bring his wisdom and truth to them, something happens.
Question 2 -What does this passage mean?
A life changed by God is never the same. If we say we’ve experienced God and are still beating down the same path, with the same thoughts, the same struggles and the same defeats…we may not have experienced God like we thought.
Have we REALLY allowed God into these deep corners of our souls…the place where no one goes but him?
Question 3 -What does this verse mean to me?
Back to my story about writer’s group. [I know you were like…where is she going with that?]
Remember the big, hot spiritual mess post? This one.
The key thought in that blog post was: To let God do it.
After writing that post, I did exactly what this verse today says to do. I let him in the inner most corners of my soul. I asked for wisdom and truth to be shed on the areas that I have got to improve on.
The next day I got the invite to this writers group.
God thing? Um, yes.
Does this group hold my destiny? No.
Does this group have all the answers? No.
But what we have to do when we feel stuck, is to line ourselves up with his truth and his wisdom…that sometimes comes in the form of other people. But today I’m not convinced that we can start with other people.
We have to start with God.
Let him in. Let him start to do the work. Then he will align us up right where we need to be.
Deep, inward, radical change. That’s what God’s word and wisdom does to our hearts. Then, our direction changes. Its good.
While its painful…it is good.
What are the corners of your soul today that you need God to shed light on? To give you some much needed direction through wisdom. Ask him to “go there” to reveal his desire for you.
He will do it friends…he will.

Great post Nicki! I think if we just put ourselves “out there” and get out of our comfort zones God can really be God in our lives. When we say “I can’t” God says “Oh yes you can.” Just try and see what you will learn. Good for you for going to the writers group. You never know who you will meet to be a blessing to or vice versa.
