Sometimes people ask me how I know God has called me to write and speak. Its a legit question but the problem is, I don’t believe God has called me to write and speak.
I had a defining moment about five years ago that I felt he had called me to evangelize and teach. Right now that looks like writing and speaking. But my feet are constantly itching to get out in this world.
ps- I don’t think we can ever be 100% sure about something so I will say I feel about 70% sure that is the direction. [smile]
There was a verse that God gave me late one night. It was Isaiah 58: 11-12:
I will always show you where to go.
I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places—
firm muscles, strong bones.
You’ll be like a well-watered garden,
a gurgling spring that never runs dry.
12 You’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew,
rebuild the foundations from out of your past.
You’ll be known as those who can fix anything,
restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community
livable again.
Question 1 -What does this passage say?
-God will show us where to go.
-He fills all those deep corners of our souls, brings light to them
-When he fills us…it will be so deep that the overflow will just happen
-He uses our past
-Our past does have layers in our foundation
-But he uses our past for something good
Question 2 -What does this passage mean?
Gonna answer this in #3 today.
Question 3 -What does this passage mean to me?
This passage says a lot of things. True.
But, there are a few things that are moving me today.
1. God will always lead me. I don’t ever have to make anything happen. And when he does lead me, it will be the right direction. Always. I was reminded of this a few days ago as someone just “gently whispered” a possibility to me. If its his plan…He will do it.
But…
2. He wants to use the ruble of our lives.
I’m not a believer that God drops things from heaven…although sometimes he does. I was reminded of this during my writer’s group that I visited. There was a guy there that had a publisher approach him to write a book. He’s not a writer, never wanted to be a writer, but knows this is a God thing.
But, if this guy had not positioned himself in the ways that he had…there would be no book to write. He would not have had the experiences that he did.
And guess what his book is about? THE PAST.
God is using his experiences for today’s people.
I’ve got a lot more to say about this…but I’m going to continue it into tomorrow’s post. Day 25! Can’t believe it. Pressing on….

Hi Nicki,
Thank you again for another “timely” post in my journey. Just this morning I wrote to God about how I feel He has me entering a new season. An exciting season, yet one filled with lots uncertainty…only He is certain. I asked for His direction, wisdom, help and blessing as He moves me forward. I love this verse…it’s another form of confirmation from Him and I’m going to keep it close! Thanks!
HI Nikki,
Just spending my Saturday night catching up on some blog posts. I love this post and your words really touched my heart. I am copying the verse down to meditate on it this next week. YOU GO GIRL!! You are doing a great job!
Having you at the writers’ group was a special treat for us.
You have so much to contribute and help others.
