Day 4- I’m going to have to decide.

Day 4- I’m going to have to decide.

A daily decision has got to be made in my life.

Day 4

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 1:9

Question 1 -What does this passage say?

Today is just a verse but it is speaking volumes to me. Briefly, this verse says we can’t run ahead of our faith. If we do, we end up in our own flesh. But, if we will stay in God’s word [or in our faith] then we will continue to walk by faith.

Question 2 -What does this passage mean?

There is no neutral ground with God. We are either with Him or not. I’m thinking for a minute about the lessons that Christ left us to gain from while He was still here on earth.

Faith, kindness, generosity, boldness and truth. These are the layers of Christianity that Christ paved in the road for us. But I can’t help but think that He [Jesus] knew that this would always be a daily decision…to walk with Him or to walk in our flesh.

There comes a defining moment in each of us when we decide which side we stand on. Either we are for God or we are against Him. There is no in between.

But what about beyond that first defining moment? What daily decision is God asking me to make?

Question 3 -What does this passage mean to me?

I have an honest confession. I have quit this Jesus thing…more than once. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about that. No, I haven’t ever denied God or said something that would cause others to think I was an atheist or something like that…but I have denied walking by faith…more than once.

And if the Jesus thing is the faith thing…then I have failed. [and now…again, the not-so-pretty part of Nicki]

My flesh is weak y’all. I stumble more than I rise. I fail more than I succeed. And I have given up more than I have continued to persevere.

I was thinking about Noah this morning…and how his life looked when God told him to build that ark.

If Noah would have waited to start building the ark when it started raining…he would have failed! He would have never accomplished what he needed to do with this massive structure had he farted around and got started when he felt like it. Noah got to work when God said, “This is serious business.”

And today, I’m thinking about all the areas that God has shown me its serious business. I keep messing around with it. “Oh Lord, I’ll get started on that…tomorrow.” Such wasted time. Wasted opportunities.

I can’t just have audacious faith when I feel like it. I can’t just live out who Christ is when I feel like it. I’m going to have to decide….daily.

Where do I stand today?

I stand guilty also of quietly leaving Jesus. Thank you for being so honest in these devotions. It makes them very powerful. I want to make that decision every day too.

  • Nicki, I just want to comment that anyone who denies that they’ve ever done the same thing is probably not telling the truth. Thanks for being real.

  • Hi Nicki, I must say this post speaks directly to me, I have given up so many times and started back where I left off so may times, its hard work being a follower of Christ. Its a lot of work on our flesh but I thank you for always being real and honest with your viewers, I appreciate that:)
