Something different is happening outside as I write this post this morning. Instead of it being pitch black, I’m seeing a little daylight starting to pop up through the sky.
And, some of us [in the south] have gotten to experience glimpses of the sun beating on our skin in a very warm-like fashion.
In my yard, there are a few signs of greener grass and my flower bed just looks like its begging for new red Begonias.
These are the signs that a new season is on its way: spring.
I feel like this has been one of the longest, coldest winters we have had in a long time.
Hurry up spring, I’m ready for a change.
My soul has the same impression.
This has been a long season of waiting, wondering and wandering. I’ve been looking for those seasonal changes signs from God that say, “Change is coming…change is coming.”
But I’m just not seeing the signs…yet.
For a girl whose feet have a hard time staying put, these seasons are the hardest.
Instead of going through my normal 3 questions, I want to pass on these two thoughts God has given me to survive this hard season. Maybe, just maybe there is one other person who will benefit from it.
1. Rest
“Come to me all you who are weary and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28
Our tendencies when things are not changing is to do more. To find more avenues, more connections and more motivation.
But the one thing that I have felt more than anything the past few months is to just…rest.
We don’t have to make anything happen. And chances are, if we are trying to make it happen…its not what God intends for us to do.
I was reminded of this by the example of someone like Justin Beiber. The boy can sing. OK? And while he had to put some feet into action to get his career going, he doesn’t have to start of his performance with, “Now listen y’all. I can sing. Ok?”
No, when he starts to sing, we see his gift. The same is true for you and I.
If we are having to constantly tell people what our gifts are…I don’t think we are as gifted in that area as we think.
Beiber can rest in his gift. He knows what he can do and doesn’t have to prove it to anyone.
So while waiting to start “singing our songs”, we don’t need to stress ourselves out, prove anything to anyone or do more. Resting. In God’s presence is the best place we can be while we wait for the winds of change.
2. Remain
“Remain in me and I will remain in you.” -John 15:15
As we enter into these seasons of winter [everything just seems dead, dried out and asleep] its easy to want to run to somewhere like…HAWAII.
Where the land is warm, tropical, sunny and life seems H-A-P-P-Y.
I cringe through these seasons, I hate them. And the land of Hawaii just seems like a whole lot more fun than the land of Charlotte, NC right now.
But, there is a lot of truth to experience in this type of season. By staying put and walking through this, we have a chance to learn, to grow and to really develop who we are.
Remaining will teach us things like:
-learning to depend on God, not friends or people to pull us through
-learning to be content, in all seasons
-learning to trust when our eyes cannot see
-learning to keep our feet planted and not run to the seemingly better place
It’s been a long season. And while I’m not seeing the signs of change just yet…I know that God promises me that he will do all that he says he will do.
In his time.
And I’m looking for that daylight to break through the sky…I’m looking.
While I’m waiting….

Love it! We had a rainbow here this morning and the Groundhog did NOT see his shadow so … You may be getting your wish. It has taken me awhile to learn to love all the seasons. I posted http://kissedbythecreator.blogspot.com/2010/11/embracing-slumber.html on my blog about embracing the winter…I still think I have some growing to do especially in the “Made to Crave” area so I am content to HUNKER down and wait out the winter this year. I was encouraged to see the word REMAIN – that is my ONE word for this year. Blessings to you as you press on and PRESS IN.
Awesome Connie! I will have to check out your blog later this weekend. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your one word, LOVE it!!
Hi nicki! So funny you should write this! Its so on point with me and has surely allowed me to benefit from it. Funny part is, im from and in Hawaii and since i recently been watching and listening to sermons from elevation church, have been wanting to go to charlotte, nc! Haha. Oh boy. Grass is always greener eh? 🙂
Ok, this just tickled me to death! How funny is our God?! Girl, lets do a house-swap ok?? You can come to Elevation and I will come to Hawaii!!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing Chelsea, love what God is doing in you and through you!
Love this post! I went through a season of waiting just recently in January. I work for a small business as a graphic designer. And from Christmas through about most of January, it was dead…very slow. And during that time I questioned my career, and when I don’t have anything to design, I question my skill, and I get overwhelmed with self doubt. And then like you mentioned in your post, I started looking at other avenues instead of just waiting. I did however pray to God for guidance, and eventually He answered me with work, and many compliments on my work. Now if only I would have just rested in trust for Him, January wouldn’t have been as hard.
Thank you for your encouraging words. 🙂
