Spring has sprung.

Spring is here!

And its been awhile since I’ve posted any how-to projects on the blog.

I know…this blog is confusing.

I have no theme.

I don’t post regularly.

And I do realize that I am breaking every kind of rule when it comes to building a blog platform and ya-da-ya-da-ya-da about trying to get published.

But…the publishing process? Its not going so well. So, its time to start having more fun on this blog. [In other words, I’m over trying to build a blog platform… for today anyways.]

The past week North Carolina has had some BE-AUTIFUL weather. One of my favorite things about living in the south is just the beauty that our state holds as seasons change. And almost every day you go outside and its like nature is gifting us with new sights.

But….

Our yard?

Its not such a sight to see.

Nope.

The boo feels very strongly about our yard too.

I know girl, its scary.

Dun, dun, dun….

And so, since the task of making this yard look pretty is a little overwhelming for a girl with not such a green-thumb…I decided to start on the porch.

I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money since we also needed a new mailbox so I was looking for cheap and easy.

Therefore, I started with the planters.

I was very hesitant to attempt the whole planter thing because um…hello…do you see the dead trees in the planters? Yes, they WERE beautiful…at one time. Apparently you can kill things in planters. [Who knew??]

So those yucky looking planters needed some sprucing up!

And spray paint fixes everything…[almost].

I love Fusion spray paint! AND…it’s only $4 a can. Two cans = $8

After I got the planters laid out on plastic, I realized that I would need to take some of the dirt out. I mean, I really should have completely emptied all the dirt but…well…I was in a hurry. [smile]

After some of the dirt was out…I began the spraying process which was very simple. The paint dried very quickly so it only took about 30 minutes to do both pots.

I’ve never really known what were good plants to put into planters but thankfully the people at the Home Depot do know! The Home Depot Garden Guru filled me in on all the deets of what to plant.

She told me to get:

Spikes

Geraniums

Creeping Jenny

Total: $25ish

The creeping jenny’s had to be planted at a little bit of an angle to allow them to flow over the edge.

And so…Ms. Home Depot Garden Guru knew what she was talking about because…

I was VERY pleased with the results:

So for under $35 and an hour of time even the most Unlikely gardener can have a pretty start to a beautiful yard.

“He makes all things beautiful in His time….” -Ecclesiastes 3:11

How about you? Do you like planters? What have you been successful with in planting in them?

They look beautiful!!! I DO love planters however, I am pretty good at killing whatever is in them. No green thumb here either. My hubby has the green thumb so he gets all the kudos for the beauty in our yard.

    Blessings sister!

    • Jennifer, my hubs is good at many things but unfortunately the yard is just neither of our specialty! 🙂 BUT…I’m hoping to learn little by little to get things looking better!

      Blessings to you!

    • Amen girl, Platform, Schmatform. 🙂 I love YOUR blog too! 🙂

  • Your blog has encouraged and challenged me because your heart seems to want to follow God’s. DOn’t understand how they could have an issue.

I like pink flowers. I planted pink and red like valentines. One of my red bushes came from a 90 year sweet lady just before she passed on. So it’s precious to me. I live in Florida so we have bromeliads here. Mine has a pink and lavender bloom…so pretty. I’m glad you’ll be doing some projects. They’re fun and spur ideas.

    • Donna, Thank you! I love pink flowers too!! 🙂 I just love how red and green look together…maybe I’m a year round Christmas girl at heart. 🙂

  • I love your blog! Your heart and Gods spirit make it purposeful and entertaining.

  • Sweet nicki!

You make me smile! I am NOT AT ALL remotely close to being good at keeping any sort of plant, tree, shrub, flower, etc. Alive. EVER.I have found the one thing I haven’t killed yet(almost did and realized I was giving it WAY too much light…) Is a bamboo plant. Now, I don’t know that’d I suggest planting those in your front yard in planters…lol… But it looks great in my office! Haha! 😉 ::smiles::

    • You make me smile too Kristen!! 🙂 Hmm…Bamboo….might have to try that!!! 🙂

  • Love to read your blog, it’s pretty recognizable….just have made my garden ready for the winter this week and that was only because spring is showing it’s first signs… 🙂 By the way your planters look great, they should look nice at my front door too… 😉

    • Thanks Ingrid! 🙂 I wish I could see your yard, I’m sure its beautiful!

  • You just keep coming up with ideas like this and I will copy!! Love it!! And we soo need to go thrifty shopping!

    • I’ve just begun! 🙂 YES!!! Next time you are in town we need to make plans to go to all my favorite places!!! Sam loves some thriftiness too!! 🙂

  • Nikki,
Your planters are beautiful…and I am filled with just a bit of envy…we are still in the 30’s with no hope of planting planters until Mother’s day. (One little tip that I have learned through the years is to remember to fertilize your plants and they will bloom all summer long.)

Also, love your blog, love your authenticity and love your love for God!

    Keep up the great job!

  • Platform? Were supposed to have a plateform? Where in the rule book is that ,, I titally missed that page two. I love coming to see what new and fun unexpected thing you have to say. And more days then not I leave here laughing. Thank you for that. And I love the planters you did a great job. I have no green thumb, everything dies under my control, but plastic arrangements are where I focus my attention. no fus no mus and fat free.

    Have a great day.

    • oops the E got in the way… could say the E could be used for eeek gads if I used a platform I’d fall( dont like hieghts,,, lol.
