I can’t wait to tell you about something.
As most of you know, I have the AMAZING opportunity each Thursday night to lead a “small” [I use the word small loosely since we have over 30 people!] group for 20-something’s from our church.
At Elevation Church we call our small groups: Egroups. [E stands for Empowerment]
It is by far one of the highlights of my week to get together with them and Seek Truth about some of the top issues they face as 20-something’s.
This group challenges me. They make me laugh. I love investing into them.
For a while now, I’ve had this idea in the back of my mind. Something I would pull out on a week where I was feeling a little “stretched”. Having two articles due this week and an event Tuesday night and lots of motherhood mayhem…THIS was the week! [smile]
And so, last night our egroup had the:
1st Annual Seeking Truth Elevation People Hunt!
It was SO much fun and I just had to tell my blogsters about it.
First, I divided everyone into three teams. Leaders of the teams were chosen by who had a smart-phone because they were going to need to text in pictures and video to me throughout the night. The first group to text in all their missions would be the winner!
Then, they were given their assignment.
“To invite people to Elevation Church this weekend in perhaps THE most creative way ever.”
Mission 1:
First, each group was given an Elevation T-shirt. They had to go into a local business and find a worker to put on the T-shirt and take a picture with the entire group. Then, they were to give the T-shirt to their “prospect” and invite them to Elevation this weekend.
Mission 2:
To go and find a random person in the community and sing one of the Elevation Worship songs to them! Then, after they sung the song they had a worship CD to give them and invite them to church. Each team had to video the mission and text it to me.
We had some technical difficulties and I SO badly wish I could show you the videos but they were to large of a file.
Mission 3:
This was by far going to be the hardest…or so I thought. [smile] Around Charlotte its hard to drive around and not see an Elevation bumper sticker on a car. They are everywhere!
So, each team had to find a random person and get them to allow them to put an Elevation bumper sticker on their car! After that, they were to invite the person to church too.
We had a little bit of technical difficulties with this one since it was raining. But each team accomplished this mission as well!
When everyone was done they all came back to our house and we heard their stories of how things went. It was so much fun just to listen to their excitement as they shared how each mission was completed.
I shared with the group that part of the reason I wanted them to do this was because sometimes its really hard to invite people to church. But, when you have something to offer them like a free t-shirt, cd or even a bumper sticker [smile], it can make the conversation go a little easier.
As teams, they were stretched to get out of their comfort zone and put themselves out there! It was a really fun night and I think everyone had a great time while learning a valuable way to reach people for Christ.
Thanks for letting me share about this group with you. [smile]
And today my blogsters, I have something fun for you.
Because I heart the blogsters too.

Hi Nicki,
I love this idea! I’m going to share it with a friend who might be trying to start a home church for younger people.
I love your enthusiasm for your group. It’s infectious. What a life-giving environment you’re nurturing!
I was catching up on a few recent posts and was sad to read that your publishing dream isn’t going as you hoped. I know it’s not easy, but keep on keeping on. You definitely have a message to share with many.
Blessings,
Kelli
