Last night Kris and were discussing some difficult situations in our lives and this thought came to me:
No one and nothing can steal the promises of God away from us -unless we allow it.
~Our joy
~Our peace
~Our blessings
~Our hope
Yes, these things are all up for grabs each day.
But I am determined -more than ever- to keep those promises alive and real to my soul.
God is so much bigger than any scheme of robbery.
This morning I found myself in the book of Luke 24:13-35.
Amazing passage of scripture. This is when Jesus appears after His death. Two women are on a road walking towards a village. It is the third day after Jesus’s death and they are still understandably disturbed.
Suddenly, Jesus appears to them but they do not realize its Him.
“As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them but they were kept from recognizing him.” -v. 15-16
I was thinking this morning, “What was it that kept them from recognizing Him?”
Was their belief to shaken from His death?
Were they to consumed with their own grief to see and know their living God?
Did they believe that they were to much of an unlikely person for God himself to appear to?
Whatever it was…I can assure you that this woman right here sitting at this computer this morning can identify with this.
Because in my own life today, I have felt Jesus near. I know He sees everything. I know He knows everything. I understand the great price that was paid for my life on the cross.
Yet, here I sit today. With “stuff” clouding my eyes. Schemes are trying to steal my joy, peace and hope.
And I just can’t see Jesus.
I am just like these two women walking on that road.
Jesus stayed with these women for the entire journey. And in verse 30, I see an incredible thing happen:
“When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and then he disappeared from their sight.”
As soon as I read those words this verse immediately came to my mind:
“Taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” -Psalm 34:8
Our entire days are filled with opportunities to taste and see the goodness of God. The refuge of God is found in the goodness of His presence. There we will see Him, we will know Him and we will conquer all things that rise up against us.
But its a choice.
Where will I walk today?
In the goodness of God or the schemes of robbery?
I am challenged today by this passage of scripture to keep my mind free and clear from all the battles that rage up. I see and recognize how much is at stake -not just today but everyday.
And I refuse to walk one more step and not see and know my Jesus -who stands right beside me.
So God today,
Give me eyes that see others the way that you see them.
Give me a mouth that speaks of life, truth and hope.
Give me a heart filled with mercy, compassion and understanding.
Give me hands that do the work of your Kingdom.
Give me the victory over the battles of the schemes of robbery.
Please don’t allow anything to keep me from seeing you…right beside me.

This is such a great post. It is so true that we often don’t “see” Jesus because we have other things clouding our vision.
This might just be my favorite post you’ve ever written! It almost brought me to tears because this is exactly what I’ve been going through recently. I’ve just been feeling like God isn’t with me.
This post seems so relevant to me. Lately, I have been really enamored with the idea of “choosing” grace, peace, joy, etc. Circumstances are bound to come, and there are days when we are on top of the mountain overwhelmed by the presence of God…but we must choose these things regardless! Thank you girly, lovely post!
