There’s more.

Our backyard is one of my favorite places to be.

It’s pretty picturesque. There’s a pond with a fountain in the center, a wooden dock, a playground and tennis courts. Mature oak trees surround the edges and there is a family of geese that can be quite the nuisance but the girls love them.

Last night Kennedy [5] said to me, “Mommy, I know you are going to say no but can we go feed the fish.”

“Why would I say no to that Kennedy?”

“Because we have to feed the geese too and you don’t wike the geese.”

True.

She knows her momma.

But I like fish. In ponds. Because they are quite, and well…stay in the pond. [smile]

So I grabbed some left-over Easter brunch bread and we headed down towards the pond to feed the fish. Sure enough, five minutes into our feeding of the fish excursion one of the curious geese glided through the water towards the dock.

Kennedy told it to get away!

But then, with her mercy-filled heart she said, “Oh ok, here’s a piece just for you.”

As soon as the other geese saw the curious goose get a bite, they were on their way too.

One of them was so elated with excitement that it let out a big GAWK and did a little jet-ski slide across the pond. [It was pretty impressive.]

Within a few moments the few slices of bread that we had come to feed just a few fish with were all gone. Kennedy was quite distressed and said, “Oh Mommy, we need to go get more bread…they are still hungry!”

I explained to her that it wasn’t our job to actually give the geese and fish a full service meal. This was just a snack. A treat for them. They will be ok.

This morning I was thinking about something…all across the United States sleepy eyes are opening. Coffee is being poured. Children are being scooted around the house to get to school on time. Traffic is backing up on highways and life is moving forward.

But in the back of our minds is yesterday: Easter Sunday.

Is it already over?

People all across the world gave their lives to Christ for the first time. Church attendance was way up. Excitement, worship and praise filled our cities!

And now, it’s Monday.

Maybe for some people yesterday was much like the fish/geese snack scene we had last night in our backyard.

We went to church and decided to give the Jesus thing a chance. God moved in our hearts and we so badly wanted the life-change that we heard presented to us.

It tasted good to our souls.

But today we are back to that job we hate so much, the marriage is still suffering and life still seems lonely.

Yesterday seemed so hopeful, today -not so much.

What we expected to keep us filled up for a long time yesterday has left us empty this morning. We are hungry already…for more.

I don’t know who these words are for today, but  someone needs to hear this:

“Jesus has more. That spiritual awakening He gave you yesterday was just the beginning, a spiritual taste of what else He has for you. While defining change moments are important –Jesus came for defining life change. Don’t be distressed, there is always more…always more.”

Everyday that power that lives inside of us is itching to get going. That hunger you have in your soul today can be filled!

Here’s a few ideas to help us experience this today:

~Find Community. I’ve got a post running at She Seeks today about building community with believers. Finding people to love you, support you and cheer you on is so important.

~Find the voice of God each day. There are numerous resources out there to help you hear God speaking.  Some of my favorites are: Jesus Calling, Crosswalk Devotionals, and of course the Bible. Click here to head to a site to get a free Bible!!

~Talk to God. He longs to connect with you. Know that God is available, willing and ready to listen to you at any time of the day or night.

~Know the battle. We have to know that the enemy [Satan] isn’t happy with all the life-change God is bringing to His people. We will face opposition. But what we have inside of us is greater than what is chasing after us. God is always stronger.

The best days of your life are ahead!

God will never give up on you!

Give it time and allow God to bring the life-change that He has promised you and before you know it, people will be asking you where they can get a bite of what you have.

“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” -John 10:10

  • Thank you! Sometimes it is so hard to keep going after a summer camp experience or something like that! It’s hard to keep the fire burning after a “revival”!
