Last night I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and I had to exit it out of it because it was making me feel yuck.
Someone posted an article about pastor’s sermons being pulled for a specific reason.
Updates about ISIS and Ebola were plenty.
Another person was using their social media platform just to vent.
And there were more articles posted about conspiracy theories than I have ever seen in my feed.
We live in a very anxious day with a lot of uncertainty in our future.
And when I start to read all these hard articles and it just seems like the world is filled with nothing but evil, I start to want to give up.
My thoughts become obsessed with it and I think, “It’s the return of Jesus! Let’s just all bunker down and stock pile our canned tomatoes.”
The world just feels broken.
But last night as I laid my head down and prayed, I felt God whisper to my soul, “You need to see the good and you need to show the good.”
As followers of Jesus, it is so important for us to be aware of what’s happening in the world around us. We need to know how we can most importantly pray, but also give and serve when the world feels broken.
Today, on the Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study of The Best Yes, I “declared” today the make someone feel special day. We as a community are intentionally blessing someone, “just because.”
And here on this blog I want to take things one-step further. I’m challenging myself and anyone who wants to join in, to be restores of Hope. Today, on social media let’s us the hashtag #restorehope and share things all day long about the good things we are seeing.
It doesn’t have to be things you personally see, but let’s find the articles about hope and goodness and make THOSE go viral. Maybe a driver let’s you out first, share it. Or perhaps someone does something incredible to bless someone else. Let’s share it.
Maybe only one other person will join me in this effort today, but call me crazy but I believe in the power of just one. Our generation desperately needs to experience the restoring power of Hope, let it begin with me.
If you’re in, let me know.
