It’s day 4 of this journey I’m on to becoming a woman of completion. The past few days I’ve shared some insights to this journey so today I just wanted to share some results.
One of the things on my 31-day “to-do” list was to complete my office.
Since we bought this farm it has been project after project after project. And so much of our money has been spent on things you can’t see.
Like, I’m not going to invite you over, show you around and say, “And now, let’s go look at our glorious new septic pump!”
And I’ve noticed I tend to delay things when I can’t do them the way I want to REALLY do them. My office was one of these projects. And therefore, it became a dumping room for everything we couldn’t find a place for.
But last week I decided I had enough of this mess. I needed a space that was beautiful and cozy to work and write.
So I had a budget of $150 and about eight hours [over the course of a week] to make this thing happen.
First thing was the paint. In an effort to save time, I tried out Home Depot’s newest paint, BEHR Marquee. It promises ONE coat to a beautiful paint color. I’ll be honest, I was super skeptical. BUT, time is short these days so I was willing to give it a try.
But you guys, IT WORKED. The trim took two coats but rolling the walls, ONE COAT. This product just changed all of our lives.
The color is called Universal Grey.
But it is pricey… so at $40 a gallon, it took out $80 of my $150 budget right away.
Worth it.
Then, I needed a new [on the cheap] light fixture. So I found this tutorial and went with this fun fixture. I won’t lie; this is not a fast project. But I pulled my girls into it to help and together we knocked it out in about four hours.
Total cost for this project was about $5!
The rest of the room was pretty easy to put together but I knew I didn’t have much left in my budget so I decided to use what I had. I picked up a curtain rod from Target for $20. The curtains were in the clearance section at Ikea for $10/piece.
My total was $125! Under budget but definitely over my time.
The whole room ended up taking me about 15 hours to complete. But I took it slow, it wasn’t a done in one day thing. And I made the space in my schedule and just did it.
Eventually I’d like to get some new pillows and recover that ottoman but for now… I’m really happy with this new space. It’s not perfect by ANY means but its a HUGE improvement.
And more than anything this process this week taught me I can create the space to complete the things that are important to me.
