Thank you for all your prayers and kind words during this difficult time in my family’s life.
I’ve been wondering how we will get through the holidays when things aren’t what they used to be. So I invited my friend Amy Lykins over for a Lessons From The Farm podcast. Amy has experienced many losses through recent years and we have an honest discussion about the holidays and grief. Amy gives practical ideas on how to encourage yourself and others in this difficult season.

This is a great blog for this time of year. One of my coping things was to find something to remind me of those gone on. For instance, I use my Grandmother’s platter, my parents first Christmas decoration. Those things make me feel they are still a part. One of the things I would add to the awesome tips you and Amy gave is to allow those hurting to talk about their loved one if they want to. Don’t push them to, but allow them to. So many times well meaning people want to change the subject when those grieving just need to remember. Thanks so much for your wonderful caring blog helping others to walk through what you have been through. Praying for you and your family in this season.
December is a very hard time for me . I lost my mother and father 10 days apart 13 years ago . I went into the hospital with two parents and came out with non- very unexpectedly. Though it’s been 13 years I am still miss them everyday however I can say that I don’t cry as much and yet at times that’s all I do. I think one of the most healing things I’ve ever heard to give someone encouragement who’s dealing with new fresh grief is to tell your story however many times you need to over and over again. It validates your feelings and validate your experience and it leaves you with a sense of not being all alone in it. It amazes me how God has placed women in my life that have gone through the loss of their parent many years prior to losing my own and now I’m in that position to give encouragement and support to those of you that have recently lost loved ones. I want you to know Nicki and anyone else who has lost a loved one, and, this is the first and /or the 20 th of (holidays) of not having that person at the table that you’re in my thoughts and prayers. I can say that I do know how to pray for you . I’m so sorry for your losses.
Thank you, last Thanksgiving my husband went into a coma and died the following day from Liver cancer. Yes, I am dreading this Thanksgiving but am looking forward to fixing some different salads that I have not done for awhile. Something different.
This will be the first family thanksgiving we celebrate without my older sister, brother and husband. They all died last year from cancer.
But God “Even If” My soul says it is well but my human heart is breaking.
