  • So good to hear you again. I loved the farm story as I also grew up on a farm. So many life lessons in a farm!

By the way my birthday is also July 31st. I share it with my twin, Kathy AND a sister 3 yrs old.

  • So glad you’re back, but I’m also glad you knew what was best for you to be the best you! I’ve learned that it isn’t selfish to practice good self care. For me that means setting boundaries so someone else doesn’t steal my time. My first two hours, yes, you read that right, TWO hours, consists of two cups of coffee, Bible study or devotional, prayer time, a limited amount of social media, scanning emails and current events, and catching up on text messages to friends and family. After that, I’m ready to tackle the rest of my day. I’m in a frame of mind to accept and meet challenges, I’m more productive, and I’m able to give my best self to those I encounter.

I know I’m fortunate to have that amount of self care time! I’m retired, my children are grown, my grandchildren are grown or in school. I’m a ministry leader, and currently working on my mental health couching certification.

Life isn’t easy though, which is why self care is literally a life changing necessity. I’m in the process of a divorce from an abusive husband, I’ve recently moved closer to my children, and I’m dealing with a destructive conflict with one of my children that threatens my relationship with my youngest grandchildren. These challenges were threatening my mental and physical heath to the point that minimal daily functioning was all I had energy for. It is reliance on my “Trinity team” and self care that have made the difference! With the care of a good support group, friends and family members, and my church family, I’m thriving now, not just surviving. With dependence on our Trinity team, we can get through hard things!!

  • Dear Nicki, I loved your podcast! You are so genuine, enthusiastic and sincere. It is good for us to recognize that seasons come and go as we learn to enjoy every age that our children are. And most importantly, to know that nothing happens apart from God. I love how you see Him at every turn! Stay forward and God bless!

  • First, thank you for mirroring the importance of down time and caring for ourselves as much as we care for our family. We need those times of recharging in order to walk forward in strength and wisdom!

This summer I hit a coveted milestone: The End! After too many years to mention (without embarrassing myself!) I finally completed my manuscript. I’ve had fun sharing it with beta readers, but now comes the hardest part of finding a publisher, or do I self-publish? Eek! I don’t know!! I am asking for the Lord’s guidance and direction.

There are no fun barnyard stories for me, but I sure did enjoy your latest story! I’ll be popping over to instagram to see those pictures! Blessings on you and your family as you move forward in life and in your ministry!
